I haven’t had a lot of time for Neopets since I started college, although I do try to get on each day to use the lab. Current account is around eight years old. However, I was a young and naive child, unknown to scammers, so I gave someone my pw. I’ll give you a few obvious but sometimes forgotten tips.

1. DON’T give your password to anyone. Don’t post it anywhere on the site, or online. Nobody but you needs to know it.

2. DON’T pay partial collateral on items in the TP on trades that aren’t what you want. Once I was supposed to be lent a FQD for 1 mil, so I put 800k on the FQD and 200k on another lot. I ended up losing that 200k and the bid on the FQD was rejected. There are many bastards out there who try to scam you.

3. DON’T post chain letters. TNT gets really pissed off about it, and your account can end up getting frozen. Never happened to me, but I’ve seen it happen. I’d actually extend this to not posting any crap on the boards, no spamming and such.

4. I wouldn’t recommend complete newbies going to the Avatar Chat on the boards. People there can be ruthless, a newbie asks a simple question like how do they get an avatar and are instantly called a n00b by like 20 people. Again, never happened to me but I’ve seen it.

5. There have been some darker days on Neopets when you’re extremely paranoid about your account being snatched from you. A few times people have somehow gotten cookie grabbers onto their shop pages or userlookups. People who go to any of those pages get their cookies stolen and thus their password. Like that everything is gone. There was also a day known as Dupe Day. Some people managed to get really expensive items and duped, or duplicated them, by the hundreds. They then commenced donating them to the Money Tree, putting the items in their shops for a few hundred NPs (items which are normally tens of millions) and hoping some unlucky soul would buy them. Well, people did and even though they didn’t create the duped items they were in possession of them and their accounts were iced.

6. Once upon a time when the site first opened having a 100k was rich. Now that’s not worth anything. To be considered even slightly wealthy on the site you have to have at least 5 million. Rich rich would be in the 100 millions.
